Foreign Language

Language and communication are at the heart of the human experience.  As Catholic school educators, we believe that understanding a different culture creates an appreciation and awareness for the diversity of all of God’s children.  We introduce our students to the concepts of foreign language and cultural diversity.  Ideally, we strive to inspire our students to become life-long learners of foreign languages for personal enjoyment and enrichment.

We teach our students the Spanish language. Spanish is the most spoken non-English language in the United States today among people ages 5 and older. It is also one of the fastest-growing, with the number of speakers up 233% since 1980.  Generally, our foreign language curriculum embraces a broad spectrum of communication skills utilizing the five C’s of essential foreign language education: Communication, Culture, Connections, Comparisons and Community. The goal of this curriculum is to develop positive attitudes and excitement toward learning the Spanish language and the cultures who speak it.
